Why is it the Brits have all the fun?

I’ve lived in good climate, and it bores the hell out of me. I like weather rather than climate.
John Steinbeck

There is news on an increase . . . er, a decrease . . . or something, in the rate of man-made global warming . . . er, cooling . . . or something, coming from the U.K.s’ Met Office, and all this in just two news days.

10/26/10, in a news release printed in the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/nov/26/global-warming-met-office, the Met Office (the U.K.s’ national weather service) reports that “The world has warmed more rapidly than was previously though over the last decade.”

On the same day, 10/26/10, in the BBC News article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11841368, on 2010 being the hottest year on record, Dr. Pope of the Met Office reports that global warming has slowed down over the last decade. “The long-term warming trend is 0.16C,” she says. “In the last 10 years the rate decreased to between 0.05 and 0.13.” but the slowdown is consistent with projections in the climate models.

It just does not get any better than this. Opposing articles from the Met Office printed in two different British papers on the same day. Then we have:

10/27/10, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/climatechange/8159991/Global-warming-has-slowed-because-of-pollution.html in the Telegraph is an article, also quoting the Met Office, man-made pollution particles are blocking part of the sun’s rays, which is off-setting man-made global warming. That’s right, man-made global cooling is interfering with man-made global warming. Who knew global warming would be this easy to fix?

I don’t know about you, but I’m disappointed that the States cannot get fun news like this. It must be wonderful to have a good laugh served up with one’s morning toast.
